TNA Report for 10/15/09

Back to home

BOUND FOR GLORY OR BUST!

Did ‘ya miss me?

I may have only been “gone” for one week, but all that matters is that I’m BACK, and that TNA’s still kicking major WWE butt. And what a week to come back on, because TNA was a special 3 HOURS this week!

The Beautiful People v. Awesome Kong, ODB, & Tara

This feud’s starting to get dry, more and more people keep getting added to it. It ruins the purpose of a basic feud, this one’s so complex it’s got me having flashbacks of my Algebra II days …

ODB and Tara argue before anyone even throws a punch, ODB gets angry and attacks them both. She leaves the match, making it a 3-on-2 handicap match, but while ODB’s tagged in, she attacks Tara. Kong throws Tara into a guardrail, as Velvet Sky hits a Drop Kick for a near-fall. Kong leaves the ring completely this time, and Madison Rayne & Velvet hit ODB with a double Russian Leg Sweep. ODB gets back in the match with a clothesline to MadisonTara in … Velvet’s tagged back in as well. Tara sends punches to all of The Beautiful People, and then delivers a Suplex to Velvet. Tara tries to set up for a Moonsault, but ODB tags herself in. ODB tries to set up for a TKO, but Tara comes in and pulls Velvet off her shoulders. Tara hits ODB with a Superkick and Velvet gets the three count. and hot tags

Winners: The Beautiful People | Rating: 5.5/10

Von who? Was she just placed in the match for eye candy? If so, that’s one sourpiece of candy …

This feud seems to revolve around ODB, for obvious reasons though. She is the champ, but having her feud with 5+ girls at the same time? I don’t know if that’s such a brilliant idea …

The Amazing Red (c.) v. Suicide – X Division Title

Woot! Red’s been champ for a whole week! *dances*

Suicide starts off strong and tosses Red across the ring. Suicide goes for a Flip Leg Drop, he misses … but so does Red when he goes for a Standing Moonsault. Suicide gets Red in a Waist Ankle Lock takedown. Red takes control, and hits a Hip Toss and a Drop Kick. Suicide comes back by driving Red into the turnbuckle for a near-fall. Red performs a Corkscrew Plancha onto Suicide, and then tries to Crossbody. Suicide catches him, and follows up with an Enzuigiri for a near-fall. Red goes for a Monkey Flip, but Suicide counters into a Fireman’s Carry. Suicide hits a Slingshot Leg Drop for a near-fall. Suicide goes up to the turnbuckles, but D’Angelo Dinero comes to interfere, and punches him off.

Winner: Suicide (DQ) | Rating: 6.5/10

The match was well planned, I’m glad to see that Joe wasn’t given a title rematch right away, and that they’ll let him and Lashley’s feud grow … The match was good, was a definite wake-up call to the show.

Hernandez v. The British Invasion – 3-on-1 Gauntlet Match

Poor Hernandez still has no friends … truly sad, and tragic.

Hernandez starts off against Doug Williams first, and Hernandez counters a Sunset Flip into an Overhead Throw. Williams hits an Elbow Drop from the top turnbuckle for a near-fall. Williams tries some European Uppercuts, but Hernandez pounces onto him for a three count, literally. And now I know why he hasn’t any friends …

ELIMINATED: Doug Williams

Brutus Magnus comes in, and hits a running boot for a near-fall. He soon after hits a Belly-to-Belly; however, he gets the same result. Hernandez hits a Crossbody to get back in the match. Magnus gets thrown into the turnbuckles, and receives some clothesline shots as well as a Stinger Splash. Hernandez throws Magnus across the ring before hitting a Border Toss for another three count.

ELIMINATED: Brutus Magnus

Two down, one to go … and that “one” would be Big Rob Terry.

Rob gets in the ring while Hernandez isn’t looking and hits a big clothesline. Hernandez tries to punch and battle back, but Rob hits a Body Block. Terry throws Hernandez into the turnbuckle for some shots to the face, but is countered by Hernandez. Hernandez hits a sit-out powerbomb for the win.

Winner: Hernandez | Rating: 7/10

The post-match bit was good I guess, if they are trying to make Hernandez seem helpless that is. Eric Young came out to the ring and hits Hernandez with a kindo stick, as The British Invasion form the “Hart Attack” position and hit Hernandez with a few elbow drops. The segment ends with the four of them standing over Hernandez’s body.

Daniels v. D’Angelo Dinero

Dinero hits a running into Daniels early, and tries an Arm Drag. Daniels counters into a Drop Kick, but Dinero takes the initiative back by thumbing Daniels in the eye. Dinero hits a big boot followed by and Elbow Drop for a near-fall. Dinero chokes Daniels, and then hits a Snapmare. He then chokes Daniels with his knee, and goes for a Camel Clutch. Daniels counters into a Neck Breaker and then hits a Leg Lariat. Dinero tries to come back, but Daniels hits an uranage. Daniels goes for a BME, but Dinero counters into a STO for a near-fall. Dinero counters a Sunset Flip into a Jackknife cover for a near-fall. Daniels gets out of the maneuver, and hits the Angels Wings for the three count.

Winner: Daniels | Rating: 7/10

**“Suicide” comes out to the ring immediately after the match and attacks Daniels. Eventually, he hits Daniels with Kudo Diver, and takes off his mask … revealing himself to be Homicide.

Any match that I get to see the Angel’s Wings performed is a good match in my book. The match was a little sloppy in some spots, but was good to watch.

Alyssa Flash v. Hamada – Falls Count Anywhere

Hamada and Alyssa start of fighting on the stage, and Flash ends up getting a table from under the ring. Hamada hits a Back Spin Kick on Flash, and goes for a Drop Kick. Flash counters, and follows up with a clothesline for a near-fall. Flash and Hamada start trading forearm shots on the ramp and Hamada gets the advantage and hits a Hilo off the stage. Hamada sets up the table, sets Flash on it, and then climbs the turnbuckles. She takes too long however, and Flash recovers. Flash tries for a Suplex onto the table, but Hamada counters and hits a Moonsault through the table for the win.

Winner: Hamada | Rating: 6/10

TNA’s knockouts’ willingness to compete in matches like these and TNA’s willingness to let them do so it what separates them from WWE almost more than anything else to me. There truly IS a significant difference between Divas and Knockouts.

Bobby Lashley v. Rhino – Stretcher Match

As Lashley’s getting in the ring, Rhino gives him an elbow that sends him into the guardrails. Rhino delivers a few punches to him, and then throws Lashley back in the ring. Rhino starts to work on Lashley’s ribs, but Lashley hits a clothesline and sends Rhino out the ring. Lashley throws Rhino into the guardrails and starts to put Rhino on the stretcher. Rhino quickly gets off, and starts to attack Lashley. Rhino goes for a Gore, but misses hard. Lashley tries to get him out on the stretcher again, but again Rhino gets off. Rhino goes for another Gore, but misses again. Lashley follows up with a Full Nelson slam onto a guardrail. Lashley then loads the stretcher again, and puts Rhino into the ambulance for the win.

Winner: Bobby Lashley | Rating: 6/10

Lashley won so easily, it was like dark match material. I don’t really see what Rhino has to do with Lashley & Joe’s feud … he and Lashley only had one one-on-one match before this one, and it wasn’t really feud reliant.

Kurt Angle v. AJ Styles

This had to be the longest match in TNA history … and what a match it was.

Styles goes for a Fireman’s Carry earlier on, but Angle counters into a Side Head Lock and Styles is taken down. He gets back up, however, and hits a Phenomenal Drop Kick that sends Angle to the floor. Angle hits some European Uppercuts but Styles counters with a slam and Phenomenal Knee Drop for a near-fall. Styles and Angle go through a “test of strength” and Angle over powers Styles to gain to advantage. Angle sends Styles over the top rope, but Styles flips back in the ring and he gives a hard clothesline to Angle. Styles goes for a springboard maneuver, but misses, hits the ropes, and falls to the floor. Styles tries to go back in the ring but is hit with a Somersault Dive from Angle.

Both are down for the count.

Angle gets up and rolls Styles back into the ring. He performs a Backbreaker for a near-fall soon after. Styles tries to get out of Angle’s Chin Lock, but Angle performs a Tilt-A-Whirl Backbreaker to stop him. Angle goes for a Suplex and connects for a near-fall.  Angle tries to Irish Whip Styles, but Styles counters with a Big Boot. Styles is overcome by an Overhead Belly-to-Belly Suplex by Angle. Angle goes over to the ropes to get a breather whilst Styles lay out on the mat. Kurt gets up and hits a Belly-to-Back Suplex for a near-fall. Angle goes for another Chin Lock, but Styles counters into a Belly-to-Back Suplex.

Both men are down, again.

Styles hits a Phenomenal Springboard Forearm, but only gets a near-fall. AJ sets up for the Styles Clash, but Angle blocks it. Angle hits a release German Suplex and AJ lands hard on his chest. Angle’s only able to get a near-fall however. Kurt goes for an Olympic Slam, but Styles counters into a Pele kick for a near-fall. Angle gets up and goes for another one, but Styles reverses into a Discus Clothesline for another near-fall. Angle hits a Three Rivers German Suplex’s for a very close near-fall. Angle goes for yet another Olympic Slam, but Styles, again, counters and hits a Styles Clash this time. He goes for the cover, but only gets a two-count. Styles goes to the top turnbuckle but Angle stops him and hits an Olympic Slam for a near-fall. Styles fights back, and sets up for a superplex off the turnbuckle, but is shoved off and the Ankle Lock is applied. Just as Styles is about to tap, the match is called.

Winner: N/A - Time Limit Reached | Rating: 8.5/10

Best match I’ve seen in months, definitely. If Sting v. Styles is half as good as that match, I’ll be way past just pleased! That match built what your English teacher would call suspense boys and girls, if you didn’t know.

Averaged Rating: 7/10

My Rating: 8.5/10

I absolutely LOVED this show, would’ve worshipped it if the stretcher match was Samoa Joe v. Lashley, and not Rhino … I can’t stress that enough. TNA’s feud system, like I also said a couple of times, is starting to bum me out a little. The matches have the potential to make the perfect show, but the storylines are lacking.

Matter ‘o fact … ‘twas a good show in general!

My sock puppets are at the cleaners, so not only am I lonely *sob*, but they also can’t find you this time ... but you should know where to look for more reports!

**: For those of you that don’t know who Suicide really is, I’ll give you a hint … Homicide isn’t Suicide, he just dressed up like him. That really narrowed it down huh?

Good article, though I think something went wrong in the first match's report. I'm not entirely sure what happened in any of it, having not watched it

The excellent comments on your articles are due to the well-written segments, not because of the TNA fanboys that go wet at the sight of the letters TNA. Everyone was really disappointed there was no article last week.
