TNA REPORT – 10/1/09

TNA looked well planned for the end of the show, the beginning was a little slow, but it picked up quickly and ended with a BANG!

Five Way Ladder Match (Winner gets X Division title shot next week)

The Amazing Red showed me how smart he really was in this match.

He starts off letting Jay Lethal & Consequences Creed take on Abdul Bashir & Kiyoshi as if it’s a tag match. While the four of them duke it out, Red scrambles out the ring to grab the ladder for the easy win. Lethal tries to stop him but is countered and sent flying with a Springboard Dragon Rana. Creed comes over to try and help, but is leveled by a dropkick from Red. With Creed & Lethal on the floor, Bashir & Kiyoshi double up on Red with series of punches. Red battles back with a double drop kick to the both of them, and since he sees that he’s the only man standing, he goes for the contract. Lethal jumps to his feet, grabs Red’s leg as he’s climbing the ladder, and hits him with a Springboard Bulldog. Bashir gets back up, and hits a Jin n Tonic on Lethal, but when Lethal gets back up, he hits the Lethal Combination on Bashir, and starts to climb the ladder. Red gets up and knocks the ladder over, causing Lethal to hit the ropes on his way down. Kiyoshi and Bashir start to double team Red again, but again, Red powers, kicks Kiyoshi stunning him, and hits a Spinning Kick on Bashir. Kiyoshi gets back up, but is met by a Tornado DDT from Red, and then Red hits a Springboard DDT onto Lethal. Creed finally joins the match, but is hit by a Huricanrana from Red. Red climbs the ladder and grabs the contract.

Winner – The Amazing Red

Nice smarts to let the two tags settle most of the match themselves, and then come in towards the end to seal it. Was a good match overall, very Edge/heel like of Red though …

Rating: 7/10

Dr. Stevie w. Daffney v. Kevin Nash

This wasn’t even a real match, I don’t know why they wanted this to be in an actual show …

Okay, so once the bell rings, Stevie goes running out of the ring and Nash goes after him. Daffney tries to distract Nash, which worked to an extent, and Stevie hits Nash in the legs with the help of the ring steps. Stevie follows that up with a series of kicks as they return to the ring. Stevie kicks Nash to the ground, which makes him fall, and hits an elbow drop for a near-fall. Stevie hits Nash with a Head Butt and applies his “General Anesthesia” maneuver. Nash powers out, and runs Stevie into a turnbuckle. Stevie grabs the baton he takes to the ring, and attempts to hit Nash with it, who counters with a big boot, followed by a Jack-Knife powerbomb for the win.

Winner – Kevin Nash

Rating: 4/5

If you watched TNA on Thursday, that was your time to go use the bathroom or get that refill you wanted. Without a doubt.

Christy Hemme v. Traci Brooks – Battle of the Playboy Models Match

Right off, Brooks runs Hemme into the ropes and gives her a nice sized kick to the gut. Brooks starts to choke Hemme at the ropes before hitting a Back Breaker for a near-fall. Hemme gets thrown by her hair across the ring, but when Brooks charges at her in the corner, Hemme counters with boots to the face. Hemme throws Brooks this time by the hair, and hits a scissors kick for a near-fall. She goes up to the turnbuckle and tries a Leg-Drop, but misses and Brooks goes for the cover … she only gets a near-fall. Brooks tries to charge again, but is countered and hit with a sunset flip from Hemme for the 1, 2, 3.

Winner – Christy Hemme

Clean win, not much to say … but not because it was a knockout match … it was a pretty decent match, would’ve loved to see more moves involved …

Rating: 5.5/10

Awesome Kong v. ODB [c.] – Knockouts Title

At the beginning of the match, Kong & ODB trade Forearm Smashes back to back for a bit and grab each others hair. ODB goes for some Shoulder Tackles, but Kong doesn’t move. Kong knocks OBD down, and tries to hit her with a splash, but ODB moves in time and comes back with a Bronco Buster to Kong. Kong comes back, and tries to charge at ODB in the corner, but misses … ODB tries the same and misses aswell. Kong hits a splash on ODB, and hits a Suplex for a near-fall.

Saeed goes up to Tara trying to start trouble, but Tara evades her and goes after Kong. Kong grabs Tara by the hair, but ODB helps her out … Tara levels Kong from the turnbuckle and ODB hits a rollup for the win.

Winner – ODB

Tara and ODB have a little confrontation at the end of the match, Tara was looking for a “Thank you” from ODB. ODB doesn’t say anything, and the two start a little brawl. Kong comes back in the ring however, and takes them both out.

Rating 6.5/10

Hernandez v. Kurt Angle

Hernandez and Kurt have had a “mini-rivalry” going on, so this match was already set up good.

Kurt puts Hernandez in a Head Lock, but is countered into a hard Shoulder Tackle from Hernandez. Hernandez goes for a Suplex, but Kurt counters and hits a series of European Uppercuts. Kurt charges at Hernandez, but is met by yet another Shoulder Tackle. Hernandez tries to biel Kurt across the ring with his shirt, but he counters and starts showboating to the crowd. Hernandez pulls Kurt back into the ring with a REDICULOUSLY long delayed Suplex. Kurt dodges a charge from “Super-Mex’ and hits a Geman Suplex. Both men are out on the ground for a moment, until the action continues with Kurt attacking Hernandez’s leg. Hernandez tries to push Angle away, but he comes back clipping Hernandez. Angle & “Super-Mex” trade punches before Angle gets caught in mid-air charging at Hernandez. Hernandez hits Angle with a sit-out Powerbomb for a near-fall. Hernandez goes for a Border Toss, but Angle gets out the hold. Hernandez gets back up and hits a Dominator for a two-count, and Angle rolls out the ring to the floor. They both fight outside the ring for a bit, ignoring the ref’s counting.

Winner – N/A: Double Count Out

The post match was really good. All of World Elite attack Hernandez and Angle and take them backstage. The beating continues and “Super-Mex” gets a shot to his family jewels. The rest of the Main Event Mafia comes in and helps fight them off before the same can happen to Angle. And now, the start of another TNA stable feud begins.

Rating: 7.5/10

Eric Young v. Matt Morgan

Eric starts the match off trying to say a few words to Morgan, who simply throws EY across the ring. Matt grabs him by the throat, but EY counters with a few kicks to the gut. Morgan battles back, by sending EY into the corner and giving him a few elbow shots. Morgan runs up and gives Eric a Stinger Splash, then picks him up and drops him out on the mat. Morgan goes for a Press Slam, but EY counters and hits a missile drop kick. Morgan runs up and clotheslines EY.

All of a sudden, some random guy comes in the ring dressed as Abyss and hits Morgan with a steel chair to cost Eric the match. It’s revealed to be Kurt Angle

Winner – Matt Morgan: DQ

Wow, how simple are some of these storylines in TNA? I can hear the Neanderthal like conversation “we make big guy hit bigger guy with chair to make little guy lose”. Angle does the same thing with everyone he feuds with, except the whole dressed as Abyss thing. A HUGE fight between World Elite, Main Event Mafia, and Matt Morgan (since he has no friends).

Rating: 5.5/10

The British Invasion & Rhino v. Team 3D & Bobby Lashley

This match was looking good before it even happened.

Brother Ray goes after Rhino, seeking revenge from last week, but is met from behind by Brutus Magnus. Magnus is met by a clothesline from Ray, and is then slammed for a near-fall. Devon gets tagged in, and Team 3D hit a double Flapjack. Devon goes on punching Magnus, before Magnus gives him and Eye Rake and tags Williams in. Williams is made short work of, as Devon, a BIG guy … and I mean BIG, dropkicks him and tags Lashley. When was the last time you saw a big guy drop kick a much smaller man? Exactly, almost never …

Lashley comes in and hits a punch combo on Williams which eventually leads into a Torture Rack and Shock Treatment. Lashley, super-humanly, clotheslines Williams out of the ring. I will never get over Lashley’s size … he looks like he could pass for near 300 lb’s of pure muscle! Hmm, how’d he do it? *wonders*

Williams tags Rhino back in, and Lashley lets Devon back in the ring. Devon and Rhino lock up, and Rhino Irish Whips Devon into a boot. Rhino hits Devon with a few more kicks, then tags Brutus back in who hits a front face lock. Magnus tags Williams back in, and the two of them hit a double clothesline on Devon for a near-fall. Magnus slams Devon for a near-fall, but Devon comes back with a choke slam to Magnus. Lashley tags in and takes all of the opposing tag team out. He goes on clothelining Magnus and Williams, and delivers a Shoulder Tackle to Rhino. Lashley hits a running power slam on Williams, but Rhino & Brutus come to break up the count. Rhino gets slammed, and Team 3d get ready to hit a “Double Wassup”. Rob tries distracts the ref unbeknownst, and Devon hits Rhino dead center. Team 3D take out Rhino & Williams, and just when it looked like 3D would slam someone through a table, Lashley hits a Dragon Sleeper on Williams to end the match.

Winners – 3D & Lashley

What a match! Best one that TNA’s had in a while … At the end, you see Beer Money Inc. & Team 3D sharing beers, and Samoa Joe comes out and KO’s Lashley with a Tazzmission to end the show.

Rating: 8/10

Averaged Show Rating: 7/10

My Show Rating: 7.5/10

Man, that was the best TNA in like a month. Not all the matches were up-to-par, but it was REALLY good. If TNA keeps it up, WWE will slowly fade like WCW did during the Attitude Era. TNA is the NEW attitude Era. With all things considered, step up ‘yo game WWE!

Hey you! Look out for next week’s edition … or I’ll have my sock puppets find you.

"When was the last time you saw a big guy drop kick a much smaller man? Exactly, almost never"

Back when Miz was on Smackdown, he was dropkicked by Kane, and I mean a full height dropkick as Miz stood on the apron. I saw that, and was like 'Since when can Kane jump that high on his own'.

I would have loved to see Team 3-D put someone through a table before Lashley (as in most of his MMA matches) goes for a quick win... However, very entertaining. And now with the attack by Samoa Joe, I think we'll finally see Bobby's character do some real mic-work other than just saying 2 sentences. "Im'a knock his ass out"
