The Weekly Review #3

Back to home
Welcome to the third edition of The Weekly Review where I will focus more on just the WWE since were going into a huge PPV that contains the biggest match of the year... Royal Rumble. Last week was dull and somewhat boring so alot was expected leading up to the Royal Rumble and you can read how it all played out in just one article... right here!

Monday Night RAW

Top Performer

I could give the Top Performer to the wrestler who won the most exciting match but instead ive been giving it to the man who makes the biggest statement. Two weeks ago it was the knockout blow by Mike Tyson and this week its a knockout chokeslam by Big Show. MVP talks alot of trash to Miz before the match but as soon as it started... it was over. Big Show put MVP down for the win in less than 3 minutes.

Best Match

The show opened with a promo by D-Generation X. Shawn Michaels asked Triple H to let him win but Triple H said he can help them team up to eliminate 28 guys... but when its all over, he wants that title shot at Wrestlemania and will try just as hard as HBK. Legacy comes out and is set to face DX. The match starts off in favor of Michaels as he lands a nice crossbody block off the top turnbuckle on top of Legacy. Legacy pulls back into the match and rapidly begin to go to work on HBK. They break him down to the point that there getting multiple near falls. Michaels eventually pulls himself together and goes for Sweet Chin Music but it hits Dibiase's gut. He then makes the tag and HHH starts dominating. When Triple H gets the tag back to Shawn Michaels, the two have a short staredown. Michaels then delivers Sweet Chin Music on Dibiase without ever taking his eyes off Triple H. HHH seems to throw a punch at Michaels but it lands on Rhodes while HBK picks up the match winning pin. Afterwards the two shake hands but you can tell theres still tension.

Best Promo

Vince McMahon has got so involved in the past three weeks by kicking Bret Hart, cutting a retribution promo, and opening RAW last week. This week was no disappointment either as he confronted the Bret Hart situation by saying he would never return to the WWE. John Cena then came out and put him in his place by telling him that Bret Hart helped Vince bring WWE to the top and that the right thing is to let him come back. Vince then agrees to invite him back next week but he also schedules Cena to fight Sheamus live tonight.

Main Event

The match started slow until the turning point where John Cena hits a nice suplex. Moments later Sheamus answers with a suplex of his own but only get the two. Sheamus then continued to take control by throwing Cena around and delivering a kick that sent him out of the ring. When Cena got back into the ring he dodged another kick and tried turning it into an Attitude Adjustment but Sheamus is able to escape. Cena then picks up the pace and starts to look good and even hits a five knuckle shuffle. Cena has enough momentum to hit the Attitude Adjustment but Sheamus gets out of it to everyones surprise. Sheamus goes for a vicious kick but Cena ducks it and gets Sheamus into the STF. Sheamus grabs the rope and then lands the brutal kick putting Cena out of the ring cold. The count out is at eight and still no motion from Cena but then Randy Orton sprints into the ring and hits the RKO on Sheamus to end it in DQ. Just when it seems to be over... Orton goes after a tired Cena but he somehow finds the energy to hit the Attitude Adjustment on Orton to end the show.

ECW on SciFy

Top Performer

Theres no doubt that one match looked real good this week. Ezekiel Jackson was kind of surprising when he won the Homecoming Battle Royal but now he has alot of momentum going into the Rumble PPV. Christians's plan backfired and Ezekiel took over that match this week on ECW and dominated it.

Best Match

The best match is the match that follows the best promo at the opening of ECW. The tag match starts off average but turns into a war between the big men that are Kane and Ezekiel. The two just kept destroying eachother as shades of the two last men standing in the Homecoming Battle Royal. Christian then joins in and hits a nice crossbody block on Regal and Ezekiel. But shortly after Christian is thrown out of the ring by Ezekiel and then gets run over by him. The match continues and Ezekiel still keeps punishing Christian. Regal then gets in and picks up right where Ezekiel left off by beating down Christian. The beating drags on and on until he finally gets the tag on Kane. A half hour into the match and you can tell they all want it bad. Christian then hits the killswitch on Regal but he gets the tag simultaneously and Ezekiel hits his finisher on Christian to get the win.

Best Promo

Ezekiel and Regal are standing in the ring to kick off ECW (better than Abraham Washington) and they start bragging about how they double teamed Christian last week to leave him sprawled out in the ring. Christian's great entrance song then hits and he comes out to talk back. At first they quote lines from a great book, a top seller also known as the bible. Then Christian gets down to business and says Ezekiel may be big but Christian isnt scared. He is actually looking forward to the Rumble and tonight hes evening the score as he teams up with Kane to take on Regal and Ezekiel... up next.

Main Event

The main event was another tag match but a six man this time. The match starts off slow but then The Hurricane gets in and brings some sense of excitement into the match with his highflying attack. Zack Ryder then gets in and turns it around on Hurricane but you can hear is annoying girlfriend yelling in the background the whole time. The match slows back down but then Yoshi Tatsu gets in and picks up the pace. Finally Yoshi finds a way to land a kick in all the chaos to end the night. Goldust, Yoshi, and Hurricane defeat Baretta, Croft, and Zack Ryder.

WWE Superstars

Top Performer

Even though he most likely wont win it, I have to give credit to Chris Masters for qualifying for the Royal Rumble. He looked good in the triple threat and is slowly starting to look more like the old Chris Masters. But if I have to go statement wise then I have to go with Khali. The past has shown that big men dont win the Rumble because everyone teams up on them but Khali definitely made a good argument for himself by clearing the ring after the main event.

Best Match

For the first time to my surprise... they decide to have a Rumble qualifier! I know surprising right since 24 competitors have already been announced without even doing anything. The entrances hit and first out is Chavo, then Primo. At this point im wondering if its even going to matter who wins and then Chris Masters comes out. I personally think he has alot more potential then given credit for. The match starts out with alot of pin attempts with no move that would really keep them down. Chris Masters spends most the match laying outside of the ring but then finally it picks up. Chris Masters goes for the Master Lock on Primo but ends up throwing him out of the ring. Then he really locks it in tight on Chavo and picks up the win. Chris Masters will be in the Royal Rumble!

Best Promo

Chris Jericho comes out to the ring and cuts his normal promo. He says that Kane, Triple H, and the others are receiving way to much hype because come this Sunday, hes going to take the Royal Rumble. Then he is interrupted by no other than R-Truth. Truth calls him the thing we all know Jericho is... arrogant. R-Truth goes on about how he thinks hes going to win the Rumble which I can almost guarantee you wont happen. R-Truth then decks Jericho and delivers a scissor kick. The promo ends with a fired up Truth while Jericho heads up the ramp.

Main Event

Matt Hardy and DH Smith are set for the main event. Early on in the match its all DH Smith. Matt Hardy won last week without even tagging in Khali but he struggled this week. Eventually he was able to pull off the comeback and even hit a nice side effect but in the end it was to much for Hardy. Natalya and Tyson Kid both distracted Hardy to lead to a big boot by DH Smith. Directly following the three count, Khali jumps in the ring and throws the entire Hart Dynasty out of the ring to make a statement for both his partner and the Rumble. At least we think until he throws Matt Hardy over the top rope to close the show.

Friday Night Smackdown

Top Performer

Drew McIntire was by far the best performer of the night. Defending his title in a no DQ match isnt easy especially against John Morrison. He took a bad beating and still won after taking a hard hit from a kendo stick and steel steps, Drew was able to use his belt to retain.

Best Match

Following the opening of Smackdown was a match between CM Punk and Triple H. HHH is hit with a big kick about midway through the match which almost gets the win. The battle goes as a GTS almost turns into a Pedigree. But interference ends up ending the match and the Straight Edge Society attacks HHH and almost gets him with the clippers but Michaels comes in just in time for the save.

Best Promo

When Smackdown started it was opened with DX. Five minutes into the show when there entrance finally ended... but Rey Mysterio came out into the segment. The two sides went back and forth with trash talk. DX targeted Mysterio's size but he claimed that he will be getting a shot at beating the Undertaker unlike Michaels who failed and wont get another chance. Things heat up between Michaels and Rey when all of a sudden CM Punk joins in with his Straight Edge Society. Punk accuses Mysterio of drugs and alcohol but Triple H backs him up somewhat by calling Punk out. Punk goes on about being straight edge as normal but Teddy Long comes to the top of the ramp to finish it. There wont be a tag team championship match tonight but instead Rey Mysterio will face off with Shawn Michaels!

Main Event

Mysterio and Michaels battled it out just like any other match but the ending turned chaotic. Just when things were heating up, Batista jumps in and spears HBK before turning to his rival Mysterio. Triple H then jumps into the mix and takes out Batista. Things were wild enough until The Undertaker showed up to double chokeslam HBK and Rey Mysterio. The show ends with The Undertaker celebrating.

60% on the predictions. Not bad knowing that I only had a 1 out of 30 chance of guessing the Rumble and Orton's match ended in DQ

AT least for the past 2 months the wrestling is much more interesting and fresh to watch due to SHEAMUS! Sheamus vs randy orton , who ya gonna cheer for?! XD

It surprising that they've decided to make sheamus retains his title. I thought he was just another transition champion .
