Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to another terrific edition of The Master’s Dojo!! I’m back from some personal issues this week and I’m ready to excite your mind!! In today’s issue, I will be going over the Hell in a Cell Pay Per View. Let’s start this thing.
To start, let’s talk about Drew McIntyre vs. R-Truth. This was one of the last matches added to the PPV, and I didn’t exactly know why. I understand that these guys are feuding and WWE wanted to see how McIntyre could perform live. I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen a lot of either of these guys recently, but this match looked… good. I would like to see some improvement on both ends, skill-wise, but it was a good first Pay Per View match for the young McIntyre. Unfortunately, I still am not 100% sold on R-Truth, and as far as I can tell, a lot of people aren’t. I really hope he can start getting more TV time and look better, but for now, it looks like McIntyre wears the figurative pants in this feud. Good match anyway.
For the next match I am going to cover, I would just like to say THANK YOU!! Batista and Rey Mysterio lost to Y2Show in a Tag Team match for the Undisputed Tag Team Titles. I really didn’t want The Animal and Mr. 619 to win. What, just because he came to SmackDown and teamed with Rey Mysterio means they get the belts? No, especially when they don’t deserve it. Face it, Chris Jericho and The Big Show are possibly the most dominant Tag Team of this decade. Jericho has been great for years, as well as Show. Plus, now anytime they’re in trouble, The Big Show just needs to swing his right arm. I am going to assume that Batista and Mysterio will win the belts eventually, whether it’s now or when D-Generation X gets involved, but for now, they didn’t deserve the belts; Y2J and The Big Show do. Anyway, the match looked pretty good, it really looks like the Tag Team division is improving, even though many people think (as well as myself a bit as of late) that Batista is boring (but to his credit I guess, so is The Big Show). I’d kind of like to see a match involving Y2Show that doesn’t end in the Knock-out Punch, but for now all is good. Y2J and Big Show retain, thank goodness.
Now, about the aforementioned D-Generation X. They, of course, had a Hell in a Cell match vs. Randy Orton’s minions (aka The Legacy). Back at Breaking Point (the last PPV before Hell in a Cell), Legacy pulled off a huge upset, which a small number of people predicted. Legacy was able to make DX tap, specifically Shawn Michaels. I was amazed, but a tad happy. Last time DX came back, they went undefeated until coming up against Rated RKO. Legacy is not and I doubt will ever be Rated RKO, but it is good that DX isn’t shown as some invincible, unbeatable force. Having said that, D-Generation X came out of the match with a hard fought victory in the Devil’s Playground. Although they weren’t together for a lot of the matches, both of these legends (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) were able to beat down their opponent(s) and take the victory. They got Ted DiBiase, Jr. out of the way so they could take out his partner and co-minion Cody Rhodes. As I mentioned before, Legacy is not and will never be great, like DX or Rated RKO. They are a good team, but DX won this match because they overpowered their opponents. Good win for the next big contenders for the Undisputed Tag Team titles.
At Hell in a Cell, Mickie James defended her Diva’s Championship against Alicia Fox. Women’s wrestling is not what it should be, but having said that, Alicia Fox is not at the same level as Mickie James. Mickie James is a proven Diva who has won the Women’s Championship many a-time, and a bit over a year ago Alicia Fox was an on-air Wedding Planner who was planning Edge and Vickie’s wedding until Edge and Fox had an affair. I’m sorry Alicia, but you are not at the same level as Mickie James.
John Morrison is great. I love watching this guy. He is really exciting, young, energetic, and really is deserving of the Intercontinental Championship. He defended his belt against Dolph Ziggler at Hell in a Cell in a non-cell match, and obviously retained. I’d like to say something about Ziggler. When Rey Mysterio was champion, I expected Ziggler to become Champion eventually. However, now with Morrison in the picture things have changed. I still think that Ziggler will eventually become Intercontinental Champion, but it may be prolonged, since now there is another exciting, young wrestler in the mix. Although the match seemed to be about even between the two, it felt to me like it was John Morrison’s match. Good win for Morrison, thank goodness he is finally getting a push, one which will hopefully bring prestige back to the Intercontinental Championship.
It looks like Kofi Kingston finally has a feud, another good thing that came out of this PPV. Kofi was in a Triple Threat match, also involving Jack Swagger and The Miz. The Miz has gone from Tag Team Champion, to jackass, to Cena hater to United States Championship contender in a matter of months. I will be honest; even as part of Miz and Morrison, I never thought the Miz would have a shot at a Singles Belt. However, he has improved, and I guess I have to say now that he is Championship material. Jack Swagger, I’d have to say, is Championship material as well. He was ECW Champion, and he has been gunning for Kingston for a while., Anyway, about the match: we all know a Triple Threat is harder than a normal One on One match, but I still think Kofi is the best competitor of the three, giving him an edge. I’m not going to say I picked Kingston, because I had no idea who I was picking, but I will say once again that I think he is the best wrestler of the 3 and deserved to win.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton is a waste of a Hell in a Cell match, I’ll be honest. You had to know before the start that some kind of crappy, “unfair” thing would happen to someone, most likely Cena due to the stipulation. And you know what? That exact thing happened!! The ref was taken out, and then Cena locked in the STFU. Orton tapped and the ref didn’t see it. Cena brings the ref back, Orton hits the RKO, and the pinfall occurs. I wish this had just been a regular match, but you can’t change the past. I’m sorry WWE, but this rivalry isn’t working out. Not too much on RAW is, aside from DX, Y2Show and the Guest Hosts (for the most part). Batista/Legacy didn’t work, Triple H/Legacy didn’t work, and Cena/Orton isn’t working. WWE, speed up the break-up of Legacy, get Orton out of the immediate title picture and do us all a favor. At least Orton was alone in this match, he didn’t use any BS from his minions to help him win, he just used a cheap shot to the ref. So no minions is a bonus…I suppose…
Now, in the Maaaiiinnnn Event, The Undertaker got his rematch vs. World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell. The Undertaker was screwed out of the title in September in Montreal at Breaking Point. Teddy Long did make this rematch however, and I knew it was the Undertaker’s time. Undertaker has been screwed inside the Cell before (see Kane’s Debut), but it wasn’t going to happen again. It was a good match, a brutal one as well. Each man was hitting the other harder and harder, until eventually, The Deadman took all of CM Punk’s hopes of retaining the belt away with a destructive Tombstone Piledriver and the 3-Count. The Undertaker defeated CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell, and finally has started his 7th World Championship reign. Consider this: Undertaker won his first World Title in 1991, and just started his 7th reign. Edge won his first in 2005 and has 9 I believe. I think Undertaker should have had more over the years, but hell, he’s champion now and that fact should be enjoyed. Plus, this could possibly be the last Hell in a Cell match The Undertaker ever goes through. He debuted at Survivor Series 1990…that’s almost 20 years now. Undertaker deserved to win this, and he did. Good job, Phenom.
