The ECW Rebound for 09/30/09

Back to home
Preshow:

I'm back with a new ratings system, to make you people happier. On with the show!

Actual show:

William Regal is interim GM tonight. Whatever. He turns Christian vs. Ryder into Christian vs. Ryder/Ruthless Round Table and gets some heat.

*Best opening music in WWE*

Tony Atlas...NOOOOOO!!!!

If you would like to be spared, I'll let you know when you can read on again.

Washington is getting heat for how bad this segment is, and it hasn't even started yet.

He plugs Hell in a Cell and the Decade of Smackdown celebration, both of which, well, I'll actually be watching.

John Morrison (who did really well on Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader - until the last question) is the guest.

They go back and forth, plugging the Dirt Sheet, Morrison's new shirt (why they can't make a good Morrison shirt - I'll never know) and the WWE Shop website. Morrison actually likes the Washington show, and Atlas' laugh. He might set it as his ringtone. I think I'd rather not have a cellphone.

The funniest part of this segment is Tony Atlas' Miz impersonation. It was worth the seven seconds of laughter he gave it.

Morrison plugs his match against Ziggler...and look who's here. Mr. Ziggles is out. Ziggler is wearing...just Google or YouTube it. What he is wearing is so ugly that I can't describe it.

Ziggler gets angry at the Mr. Ziggles comment from Morrison...

Are you serious? It's over? Ziggler says NOTHING?

We cut to the Ruthless Roundtable. They're with Ryder, who is rocking a sweet silver jacket, which is great, until I see the pink.

It's now Christian, Yoshi Tatsu, Tommy Dreamer, and Goldust vs. Ruthless Roundtable and Zack Ryder. Ryder mutters something, and Regal asks if Ryder is questioning his ability to General Manager. "You know it." Yeah, he questioned his ability to General Manager. That's not a typo.

Our first match is a Paul Burchill one. Oh joy.

Shelton Benjamin vs. Paul Burchill

Hi, Sheamus! Sheamus comes down and blindsides Benjamin. Sheamus throwns Benjamin back in when he's done and has to go to the back for being a bad boy. The match begins anyway. Nice little build to Sheamus/Benjamin.

The bell rings and Burchill repeatedly rams him into the turnbuckle with his shoulder before connecting on a back suplex for two. Stomps from Burchill and a jumping knee to Benjamin before more stomping for two. Sloppy clothesline for two before Burchill keeps him down with a Standing Armbar. Benjamin simply gets to his feet to relieve the pressure before Burchill does an odd little move and throws him shoulder first into the turnbuckle post.

We come back to the armbar from earlier, except Burchill's on his knees. Benjamin stands up again. He hits some punches before Burchill drops him with what sort of looked like an Angle Slam. It's the THIRD time this armbar has been used, but Burchill spares us and breaks the hold, and then he kicks Benjamin's arm at the part it bends for the elbow.

The armbar is applied again, but Benjamin gets back up. Benjamin counters a suplex by landing on his feet and delivering a neckbreaker. The referee reaches seven on his Double-KO count. Benjamin starts a small rally...before he is met with an elbow by Burchill. More stomping. Burchill sits Benjamin onto the top rope. Benjamin manages to knock Burchill back down to the mat, and Benjamin FLIPS when Burchill gets back up...and he lands NO WHERE CLOSE to Burchill. Burchill hits a jumping knee for two before he uses the evil armbar (really - it's like, two different armbars) until he gets dropped into the second turnbuckle. Benjamin and Burchill trade blows into Burchill shoulder blocks into him. Burchill bounces off of of the ropes....PAY DIRT! 1, 2, 3.

Match Winner: Shelton Benjamin

Match Rating: 5.4/10

This match was a good little match, and it build Benjamin and his feud nicely. I would have preferred if I didn't die of armbar boredom. "Out of nowhere" Pay Dirt was unexpected by all, so it worked.

Christian is rallying his troops. Tatsu and Christian get into a funny little exchange of thank yous, Christian calls Goldust a freak, and Christian tells Tommy Dreamer that they're going to war. Hands in, AWOO on three, and we're off, as Roundtable Music has hit.

Christian, Yoshi Tatsu, Tommy Dreamer, and Goldust (Team Face) vs. The Ruthless Roundtable and Zack Ryder (Team Heel)

Dreamer and Ryder start. Side headlock from Dreamer gets countered, and then Dreamer gives Ryder a shoulder block. Action gets quicker, Tommy counters Ryder's hip toss with one of his own. Tommy then does another one into an armbar, before tagging in Goldust, who bounces Ryder off of the ropes and gives him an Atomic Drop before a clothesline for one.

Kozlov gets tagged in, but Goldust works him with some punches before dragging him into the Team Face corner and tagging Yoshi Tatsu, who jumps off the top rope and sort of gives Kozlov a leg drop to his arm. Tatsu grabs Kozlov's arm and starts doing some kicking, but Kozlov knees him into the Team Heel corner. Tatsu hits some kicks on the tacked in Ezekiel Jackson, but Ezekiel simply catches one and bodyslams him. Ezekiel misses an elbow, and he runs into the corner to try to get Tatsu, who gets out of the way and tags Goldust. Goldust begins a rally...and then gets clotheslined. Zeke drags Goldust to the corner and tags in Regal, who starts hammering away with his knees before punching Goldust for one.

Regal blocks Goldust against the rope and tags in Ryder, who gets a free punch. Ryder tries for the Irish Whip to Back Body Drop, but Goldust drops down and gives him an uppercut, which he follows with a bulldog. Goldust makes a leaping tag to Christian, and it's rally time. A set of punches out of Christian before he bounces off of the ropes and hits Ryder with a running elbow. Christian waits on the top turnbuckle, and he jumps off, connecting on a spinning elbow. Christian uses a low dropkick to take Zeke out, knees Kozlov, and Regal decides to just hop off himself.

Ryder takes this as his opportunity to go for the Zack Attack, but it gets countered into a reverse DDT. Christian connects on a Flashpoint for two. Tommy Dreamer is tagged in. Together, Christian and Dreamer do what looks like a reverse Snapshot for two. (Remember MNM?) Ryder gets falling powerslammed for two. Dreamer gets up to the second rope, but Regal distracts him, and Ryder takes advantage and pulls him off. Ryder drops his knee on the back of Dreamer's head before tagging Regal.

Regal drops a knee and hits a few commercials before...

*Commercial*

We come back, and Zeke has a Butterfly Lock on Dreamer. Zeke breaks it when Dreamer gets halfway up, and he puts Dreamer in the corner. The referee turns his back, and Ryder kicks Dreamer, while the other two stooges (Regal and Kozlov) hit a few punches on Dreamer. Zeke throws Dreamer across the ring with a hip toss. Zeke gets Dreamer back up and bodyslams him for two, before giving Kozlov a tag. Kozlov hits an elbow and a kick to Dreamer's back. Kozlov gets Dreamer to the corner and begins ramming his head into Dreamer's gut before tagging Regal.

Regal calls Dreamer pathetic, and Dreamer reaches up and slaps his chest. Regal hits a flurry of punches, and a knee, before getting Dreamer back up and tagging Zeke. Zeke tries to whip Tommy into a Back Body Drop, but Dreamer hits him with a knee and tags in Christian. He attempts to begin a rally, and bounces against and over the ropes. Why? Because Kozlov pulled the rope down. Regal tries to be a vulture on Christian, but the referee sees it.

It takes a count of eight for Christian to get on the apron, and Zeke hits a stalling suplex for two. Christian tries to escape, but Zeke picks him up and gives him a backbreaker. Another backbreaker and Christian is dropped. Regal is tagged, and he connects on a knee for two. Christian gets up, hits a couple of punches, is pushed to the turnbuckle, and then he turns around and hits another punch.

Christian tries to make a tag, but Regal stops him. Kozlov is tagged in. It becomes clear, after about the third punch from Kozlov, that Team Heel is targeting Christian's ribs. Christian gets to his knees, and Kozlov lifts him up in one motion into a Canadian Back Breaker. Kozlov keeps the hold until Christian breaks free. He tries to leap over Kozlov. Kozlov catches him and turns it into a Fallaway Slam. Ryder, the fresh man, begins stomping away at Christian's ribs.

Ryder covers him for two before locking in a body scissors with his legs. The Tinkerbell Effect begins, so Ryder breaks the hold, beats on Christian a little, and then tags in Kozlov. Kozlov puts Christian into a corner and connects on some shoulder thrusts. He picks Christian up and puts Christian's body onto the ropes. He headbutts Christian's ribs before connecting on a swift kick to the ribs that knocks Christian back down to the ring.

Kozlov picks Christian back up, and he puts him in the corner. Kozlov backs up, and Christian gets out of the way, so Kozlov's face meets the turnbuckle. Christian stays in, and Kozlov tries to run again, but he is met with a rope assisted dropkick. Christian then leaps off of the second rope and delivers another dropkick, which causes the Russian Wall to fall down. Tags are made to Ryder and Tatsu.

Tatsu hits a few kicks before a dropkick. The pace is quickening and the crowd is getting into it. Tatsu bounces off the ropes and hits a clothesline. Ryder gets back up, only to be met with a neat spinning elbow. Ryder is whipped into the turnbuckle, and Tatsu connects on a front Elijah Express before he uses his Rolling Snapmare into a kick. Tatsu manages to knock only Regal off of the apron, but he jumps off of the ropes and hits his Spinning Heel Kick for two...Zeke breaks up the pin.

Goldust gets into the ring, and Zeke attempts to explode on him, but Goldust sidesteps. Kozlov quickly follows and knocks Goldust out of the ring, though. Dreamer comes in, runs, and jumps into Kozlov to get them both over the top rope. Christian gets into the ring, but not for long. He does his second-rope springboard to outside fall manuever. Regal is tagged in, but before anyone really realizes that, Tatsu hits his Kick for the three. Cue the interesting music.

Winner: Team Face

After the match, the four members of Team Face pose on the turnbuckles to close the show. Ryder actually looks the most angry out of the four members of Team Heel.

Match Rating: 6.4/10

Show Rating: B-

The show didn't suffer from a lack of segments, and all of them served their purpose. Benjamin/Burchill did its job of building Benjamin and building his feud with Sheamus, while I wondered where the Hurricane was again this week. The 8-Man was a bit boring, but it did a nice job of building each member of each team. Best news of all? I actually wanted the Abraham Washington show to continue. It just wasn't an "A" show. But it was a nice one.

Hell in a Cell Picks:

Mickie James, Morrison, Cena, Y2Show, DX, Undertaker, and The Miz

See you next week!
